Tom Felton is a British actor and musician. Felton rose to fame in the early 2000s for his role in the film adaptation of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter, in which he played Draco Malfoy.

Felton began his acting career playing different characters in TV commercials in the 1990s. His first break was a role in the 1997 film The Borrowers, where he was cast as Peagreen Clock.

He featured in the 1999 film Anna and the King before playing his biggest role in Harry Potter. Felton appeared in 7 Harry Potter sequels between 2001-2012.

Early Life

Felton was born in Epsom, Surrey, the youngest of four children. His parents are Sharon Anstey and Peter Felton, and he is related to renowned geophysicist Nigel Anstey. Felton’s parents divorced when he was a teen.

In high school, Felton was interested in music and joined several school choirs during his time at Howard of Effingham School.

Career

Felton began his acting career when he was offered to act in commercials for Barclaycard and Commercial Union. Felton provided the voice for the character James in the 1998 series Bugs. He played a witness in the 1999 film Second Sight and was later cast as Louis T. Leonowens in the film Anna and the King. 

In 1999 Felton went to audition for a role in Harry Potter. He had not read the book until then and initially prepared for the role of Harry Potter and Ron Weasley, but was eventually cast as Draco Malfoy, a conniving “enemy who is hell-bent on placing his house first.”

The film was released in 2001 to high critical acclaim and would go on to become a billion dollar franchise. Felton’s role was praised by critics for his ability to portray “perfect upper-class insolence.”

In 2002 Felton reprised his role as Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, winning a Disney Kids Award for his performance. By this time Felton had amassed a large fanbase, which led to him starting a fan club which attracted so many fans that Felton was forced to temporarily stop new fans from signing up.

Felton continued to establish himself as a bankable actor for his roles in subsequent Harry Potter sequels including Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and the fourth installment, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

In 2005 Felton briefly played a character in the short-lived series Home Farm Twins.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was released in 2007, becoming the second highest grossing blockbuster in Hollywood. When asked how he felt about playing a bad guy in Harry Potter, Felton indicated that he would be open to playing “someone not so spiteful”.

Felton recorded a song in 2010 called Hawaii, which was released under Six Strings Productions. He has created music videos for some of his songs and made them available on YouTube.

Felton was featured in the horror flick Apparition in 2012 and WA praised for his performance on Belle, a 2013 film that also features Taraji P. Henson. He played the character Logan Maine in the sci-fi movie Origin, alongside fellow Harry Potter star Natalie Tena.

In 2021 Felton was cast to play the lead role in Save The Sinema, an adaptation of a true story that tells the story of a Welsh named Liz Evans, head of a youth center. Evans had championed a campaign in the early 1990s to prevent closure of the Lyric center.

Felton dated a stunt assistant named Jade Olivia Gordon from 2008 to 2016. He fell sick while participating in a golf exhibition for the 2021 Ryder Cup celebrity event.
