Anwar Ali was born in the late 40s in Mumbai,India to dancer and character artist Mumtaz Ali and Latifunnisa Ali. He was the youngest of eight siblings and is related to the late comedian Mehmood Ali and character actress Minoo Mumtaz. Ali and his siblings were raised in Mumbai where his father had built a reputation as a dancer and character actor performing alongside his dance troupe. ‘Mumtaz Ali Nites.’ Despite being born into a family with influence in the entertainment industry, Ali was able to make a name for himself due to his versatility.
Ali followed in his family’s artistic footsteps and began his career in 1968 when he debuted in the movie ‘Sadhu Aur Shaitaan.’ His appearance was well-received and he was able to land a major role in the film ‘Saat Hindustani’ shortly after.
