Nizami was born and raised in Pakistan where he attended standard schooling before turning to religious study.
After graduating from University in Pakistan, Nizami became a religious scholar with a focus on Islamic law. The subjects which Nizami studied and taught include Fiqh, Hadiths, and tafsir. In addition, he is an expert in Arabic language, grammar, and philosophy.
Nizami is a former Muslim who converted into atheism following years of religious study followed by an apparent critisicm of controversial Islamic subjects such as Hadiths and principles of Hdiths.
Before Nizami got arrested by Pakistani security officials, he was involved in translating Islamic text from English to Urdu. However, during the course of his work, he was discovered and exposed by a Pakistani author named Alyan Khan.
Nizami founded the website realisticapproach.org which is written in Urdu and focused on teaching taboo topics of Islam. The bulk of Nizami’s work focused on exposing what he termed irreligion and this is what led state officials targeting his organization Atheist and Agnostic Alliance Pakistan.
On 24 March, Nizami was arrested by Pakistani’s Federal Investigative Authority (FIA) for alleged blasphemy. Two other activists were also taken into custody by the Pakistani government in what it described as an effort to prevent the spread of offensive online content.
Shortly after Nizami’s arrest, hashtags like #FreeAyazNizami began to trend on social media alongside opposing hashtags like #HangAyazNizami. Pakistani authorities eventually took down Nizami’s personal Twitter account along with other digital content deemed blasphemous.
Social media platforms such as twitter have been the most painful mouthpiece for teaching Nizamis anti-religion philosophy. His twitter posts were flagged by Pakistani authorities during a period when the FIA was conducting raids against organized anti-religious sentiment. Nizami’s social media accounts were disabled shortly after his arrest by government authorities.
