Salvador Garcia Tampa was born on July 12, 1932, in Manila, Philippines. His father’s name was Segundina Garcia and mother was Meliton Tampac. Cachupoy got his early education from Juan Luna Elementary School and Roxas High School. He did his graduation from Santo Tomas University, Philippines. Cachupoy always wanted to be an actor or a painter. Before starting his acting career, he worked in a construction firm.
Cachupoy’s acting career started when he performed minimal roles in stage shows along with actor “Suing.” The famous, well-known “Lou Salvador Sr.” gave Cachupoy the stage name “Cachupoy.”
Cachupoy’s mainstream career started when Director Jose Miranda Cruz selected him for his movies. His debut movie was “Tatlong Mabilis,” (1965). In 1966, he did “Pitong James Bonds”, and the audience liked his character. Then in 1968, he performed in two films, “Alyas 1-2-3” and “Manila, Open City”.
He acted in the movie “Checkered Flag or Crash” in 1977, Andres de Saya in 1980, “Atsay Killer: Buti Nga Sa’yo” in 1984, Captain Yagit in 1985, and Soldier in 1986. After that, in 1987, a new thriller and action movie was released with the title, “Rangers in the Wrong War”.
Cachupoy did a comic role in the film “7 Pasiklab sa Army” (1988) and was highly appreciated by the audience and by critic “Lav Diaz”. He admired his performance both as an actor and a comedian. He said that Cachupoy is far better than his comedian co-stars Don Pepot and “Redford White” by giving the following remarks.

Cachupoy was also interested in singing, so he started singing and joined the trio “The Millionaires”. His career as a television artist started with his debut television performance in “Hiwaga Sa Bahay na Bato” under contract with Nepomuceno Productions and ABS-CBN. Shows including “Cuatro Vidas” and “Winner Take All” welcomed Cachupoy as a comedian. He also appeared in a Television show named “Eddie and Nova Plus.” All the three mentioned shows were broadcasted on Channel 3.
After his last performance in the film “Ganti ng Api” in 1991, he stopped working more and retired from the film industry. His fans and followers remembered him by his trademark of Sported hair that was always parted from the middle.
