Jon Batiste was born as Jonathan Michael Batiste on the 11th of November, 1986 in Louisiana, US. He is a member of a family of musicians, The Batiste Family. His father Michael Batiste was a member of the band Batiste Brothers. His mother Katherine Gauthier Batiste works as the Environmental Program Manager at DOE. She was the driving force behind Jon’s musical learning. She observed Jon’s interest in music and sent him to learn piano lessons and to summer jazz camps along with his elder sister, Kaleana Gauthier Batiste. He is a graduate of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts.

Career Highlights

In 2005, Jon made his debut by launching his album, Time in New Orleans. He then went to the Julliard School in New York. In New York City, he started presenting his songs on the street along with his friends, Phil Kuehn (bassist) and Joe Saylor (drummer). He launched another album in 2005, Live in New York: At the Rubin Museum of Arts. Eddie Barbash (saxophonist) joined the group and thus the band, Stay Human came into existence.
