Dayvon Bennett was born on August 9, 1994 in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised on the O Block, one of the most dangerous blocks on the south side of Chicago. He had six half siblings from his father, Walter E. Bennett, and three siblings from his mother, Taesha.
Bennett was raised primarily by his mother while his father was in and out of jail for the majority of his life. His father died when he was 11 years old after a fatal gunshot wound took his life. Later in life, Bennett would use his father as inspiration for his music.
King Von’s career began in 2018 when his childhood friend, Lil Durk, signed him to his label Only the Family (OTF). That year he released his first well known single called Crazy Story. This single is one of his most popular songs and put him on the map in the music industry.
After the release of his first single Crazy story he subsequently released the songs Crazy Story 2.0 and Crazy Story Pt. 3 in 2019 with Lil Durk collaborating. In late 2019, King Von released a mixtape called Grandson, Vol 1. This mixtape debuted at number 75 on the Billboard 200. His debut album, Welcome to the O’Block was released in 2020. The album reached number five on the Billboard 200 chart.
Notable songs throughout his career include Crazy Story, Took Her to the O, The Code, Still Trappin’, Armed and Dangerous and Lurkin. In addition to working with Lil Durk he was also tied to Sada Baby, Fivio Foreign, NLE Choppa, Wheezy, YNW Melly and numerous others.
Dayvon went to jail for the first time at the age of 16 for possession of a firearm. This incident would be the beginning of his legal troubles. In 2014, he was involved in a fatal shooting that killed one and injured another in Chicago; he was eventually acquitted by trial after three and a half years in jail. Over the next few years, King Von would be in and out of jail.
King Von attended South Suburban College in Chicago and was able to earn college credits but did not finish school. While in juvenile detention he was able to earn his GED. At this point in his life he also became a member of the Black Disciples street gang. David Barksdale (King Dave), King Vons grandfather, was the founder of the Black Disciples.
In 2019, King Von was romantically tied to Asian Doll and in February of that year she released a music video that he appeared in. They reportedly broke it off in September of 2020; only a month or two before his tragic death.

King Von died on November 5, 2020 outside of the Monaco hookah lounge in Atlanta. A dispute reportedly broke out between his crew and Quando Rondo’s (Tyquian Terrell Bowman) crew resulting in multiple gunshots being fired. King Von was shot and fatally killed. During the altercation, two other individuals were killed and three were wounded. Bennett was buried in Chicago on November 14, 2020.
