KJ was born on the 6th of May to parents Ernest and Marilyn Smith in Tallahassee, Florida. She was raised in the suburbs of Tallahassee and after completing high school joined Florida State University to pursue a degree in Business Marketing. Straight out of college, KJ secured herself a job in corporate America. A few years into her successful career, KJ enrolled at the Florida A&M University where she studied journalism. Despite the perks that came with working in corporate America, KJ realized she was unhappy with her career path which had heavily been influenced by other people’s expectations. It was at that point that she decided to move to Los Angeles to follow her dreams.
KJ’s move to Los Angeles was a big leap of faith and completely impromptu. While KJ had expected a quick climb to the top, the opposite seemed to be true. Despite putting in the much-needed work to make it in the industry, all her auditions seemed to fall through the hoops. With no lucrative salary to sustain her, KJ settled for a job in retail as she continued to work on her dream. KJ began doing several free jobs on web series and comedy skits. Thankfully by the time of his passing, he had accepted her career and was proud of her work.
