Christopher Brian Bridges also known as Ludacris was born in Champaign, Illinois, the United States of America on September 11, 1977. He is the son of Wayne Brian Bridges and Roberta Shields. Ludacris started rapping at the very tender age of 9 and joined a rap group at the age of 12.

He received his early education from Emerson Middle School and later joined Oak Park and River Forest High School for further studies. After this, his family moved to Atlanta located in Georgia. There he attended the Benjamin Banneker High School. Ludacris studied music management for one year at Georgia State University.
