Manoj Bajpayi was born in a small village called Belwa in West Champaran, Bihar to a Brahmin family on 23 April 1969. He grew up with his five siblings, one of his younger sisters being a fashion designer in the film industry. He had to do farming during his vacations as he was the son of a farmer.
Manoj Bajpayi has always wished to become an actor since his childhood. Manoj had to study in a small school in the village till the fourth standard as his father had difficulty collecting money for his children’s education. Later, Manoj went to Khrist Raja High School, Bettiah to complete his school education. After that, Bajpayi got admission in Maharani Janaki Kunwar College in Bettiah for his college education.
Bajpayi moved to New Delhi to go to Satyawati and Ramjas College, Delhi University when he was 17 years old.
Bajpayi was very much impressed by the big actors like Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah, and so at their suggestion, he applied for the National School of Dramas. But neither his luck, nor acting skills could win him a position there and he was rejected three times in a row.
To reach his aim from a different road, he attended the workshop of director and acting coach Barry John. John was impressed by the acting skills of Bajpayee, so he hired him to assist him in his teaching.
After getting trained by the acting coach, Manoj Bajpayee applied at the National School of Drama as his fourth try and this time he succeeded and got a teaching position at the school.
Manoj Bajpayi started his acting career in 1994 with the role of Mann Singh in his debut film ‘Bandit Queen.’ Same as many hard-working actors of the industry, Manoj had to struggle very much during his starting years.
