Rico Yan was born Ricardo Carlos Castro Yan on March 14, 1975, at The Medical City in Mandaluyong, Philippines. He belonged to a family of menbusinessmen and soldiers and was the son of Marianne Castro-Yan and Roberto Yan Sr. Yan grew up with three siblings Bobby, a television host, Geraldine and Tina.
About the education of Yan, we know that he got his primary education from Xavier School and completed his primary education in 1988, and then went to De La Salle Santiago Zobel School. He got his highschool diploma in 1992.
In 1998, Yan became the first official youth spokesman for the Department of Sports and Education Culture in the Philippines. He edtraveled the whole Philippines for free as part of educational campaigns for youths.
