Early Life

Robin Amelia Arzón was born on 20th September 1981 in Philadelphia, PA, USA. Her mother was a Cuban refugee who could not speak English, but learned it and then became a doctor. Her father was from Puerto Rico and worked as a lawyer. Inspired by her father, Robin also began her career as a lawyer.

In 2002, when she was in New York University attending her undergraduate law course, a near-death experience changed her mindset. She was with her friend at Manhattan wine bar when a gunman entered and made her and others hostages. Not just this, the gunman used Robin as his human shield by pointing a pistol at her head. Luckily 2 of the hostages jumped on the gunman that gave the police chance to get him.

To cope up with the trauma of this incident Robin found herself running. The decision of changing her career was not spontaneous. She completed her law courses at New York University and Villanova University School of Law and practiced law for seven years. She had long work hours but to meet herself she ‘ran’. She kept looking for brief moments when she could escape the courtrooms or her desk to run.

Career

Robin ran her first marathon in New York City Marathon in 2010. She then ran five marathons in five days to raise funds for MS run, the US campaign, to honor her mother who was suffering from multiple sclerosis. In 2012 she quit her job and joined NYC Bridge Runners, which is a local runners club.

In 2014 she was diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes. But nothing could stop her from running. Robin joined Peloton the same year as an instructor and raised herself to the position of Vice President of fitness programming. She ran a 100-mile ultra-marathon from Key Largo to Key West in Florida, in May 2016.

Having found peace and fitness from running and sweating, Robin wanted others to know and benefit from her experiences. This feeling encouraged her to become a non-fiction author. Her book ‘Shut Up and Run: How to Get Up, Lace Up and Sweat with Swagger’ was published on 21st June 2016.

After giving birth to a daughter, she also wrote a book titled ‘Strong Mama’ a live signing event of which will be held on 11th January 2022.

Currently, Robin is one of the most favorite instructors of Peloton and an author of two amazingly inspiring nonfiction books.
